I am a Functional Medicine-trained, Dip ION PSA accredited, Registered Nutritionist®, MBANT & CNHC Registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. Based in Swindon, I serve clients from Swindon, Newbury, Marlborough, Malmesbury, Reading, Gloucester, Oxford, Chippenham, and surrounding areas. I also offer online consultations for clients in London, Essex, Scotland, and abroad.
Online or in-person, my consultations are thorough. I have been recognised by top platforms such as The Midult, where I’m listed at number 6 “The Bowel Hero” in The Top 15 nutritionists, in their directory, by personal invitation only.
So what do you want to know most about Functional Medicine? Maybe it’s how it can support your mental health. Or is it to relieve all the debilitating symptoms of a bowel issue? Or is it to learn more about how you can be in optimal health, to increase longevity? Whatever your personal health needs are, Functional Medicine can be the key to success, in reaching your goal.
I trained for three years, at the renowned Institute for Optimum Nutrition (ION) in London, which is recognised for its rigorous, science-based approach to nutritional therapy. I’m also proud to be a member of the ION Alumni Community. My background is rooted in a family of highly educated professionals, including three PhD doctors, giving me a solid foundation in understanding the importance of health and wellness.
Functional Medicine focuses on addressing the root causes of disease rather than just supporting you with the symptoms. As a Nutritional Therapist, I offer personalised dietary and lifestyle plans aimed at improving your overall health and wellbeing.
Each consultation includes an in-depth assessment and personalised plan to address your unique health needs.
I’ve been featured in the past & this year (2024) on BBC Radio Wiltshire, BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Radio Gloucestershire, discussing topics such as Ultra Processed Foods and the impact of vitamins, including vitamin D.
As a contributor to leading publications, including the Swindon Advertiser, Natural Health magazine and as the number 6 "The Bowel Hero", on the Top 15 Nutritionists in The Midult, (by personal invitation only) my insights on nutrition have reached a wide audience.
What’s the difference between a Nutritionist®, accredited HCPC Nutritionist, Nutritional Therapist, PSA Registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Naturopath, and a Dietitian?
The terms 'nutritionist' and 'nutritional therapist' are not protected titles, meaning anyone can use them regardless of training, qualifications & duration - some are only for a few months! However, registered nutritionists usually have formal education in the field and often work in research or within the NHS. Before seeking advice, always check a practitioner’s qualifications and membership in recognised governing bodies.
Nutritional therapists, if PSA accredited, are now referred to as PSA Registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioners. They apply nutrition science to promote health and wellbeing and take a personalised approach, tailoring nutrition and lifestyle plans to each individual. They often work privately and collaborate with medical professionals, sharing nutritional protocols where necessary.
Dietitians are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and typically work within the NHS. They use evidence-based nutrition to create eating plans to manage specific medical conditions.
A PSA Registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, who may also use the title ‘nutritionist’, has undergone recognised training, is registered with CNHC, and is a member of BANT. These practitioners follow the Functional Medicine model, which considers an individual’s diet, lifestyle, and genetics. Functional Medicine is not a substitute for medical advice, and practitioners will refer clients to a GP for further investigation when needed.
Naturopaths, on the other hand, practise alternative medicine based on traditional practices rather than evidence-based science.
i trained for three years, at the renowned Institute for Optimum Nutrition (ION). I am also proud to be a member of the ION Alumni Community.
What’s involved in a consultation?
During the first consultation, we will complete a detailed ION (Institute for Optimum Nutrition) questionnaire together, discuss your health concerns, and, if necessary, I may recommend specific health tests, typically through the NHS. Private testing is only suggested when absolutely, necessary. At the second consultation, we’ll go through your personalised nutritional plan and address any questions.
For children (16 and under), an appropriate adult must be present during consultations.
Will I need to have tests?
Tests can be helpful in identifying the root cause of your symptoms. Many tests can be carried out for free by the NHS, and I only recommend private testing, if absolutely, necessary, following a detailed discussion of what’s involved, the cost, and what to expect. In most cases, NHS tests are sufficient.
Will I need to take supplements?
My approach is food-first, so I base recommendations on food as much as possible. Supplements are only recommended when nutritional deficiencies are identified through tests &/or the ION questionnaire. Supplements may be required in higher doses at the start of a plan to restore levels, with dosage adjustments made over time as needed.
How many consultations will I need?
Most clients will need two consultations, either in-person, or online, for the Adult and Child Nutritional Packages. Full support is provided Monday to Friday for two weeks after the second consultation. The Complex Nutritional Package requires three consultations with four weeks of full support, ideal for clients taking multiple medications (polypharmacy: 5 medications or more). Please note these four weeks will be divided. Some clients will require longer support, on an as & when basis.
Does my doctor need to know I’m seeing a Nutritional Therapist?
Ideally, yes, as it’s best to work collaboratively with your GP and other healthcare providers. However, if you’re not taking any prescribed medications, then it’s up to you, to decide what's in your best interest. If necessary, I will email you a referral letter for you to forward on to your GP, requesting specific blood tests. If any serious health issues arise during our discussions, I will refer you to your GP for further investigation. Any medications you’re taking will be considered when creating your personalised plan.
When should I expect to see changes in my health?
Some clients notice positive changes within a week, while others may take longer. If tests are required after the first consultation, we will wait for the lab results before proceeding with your plan.
How long is each consultation?
Consultations typically last 1.5 to 2 hours, though they may be shorter for children. For couples or clients on the Complex package, consultations usually take up to 2 hours.
How much does it cost & Payment options?
Each package includes two weeks of full support, Monday to Friday, with four weeks of support for Complex and Couples packages.
Payment options: Bank transfer & cash.
NOTE: Please check, if your private health insurance provider, will cover the cost. If so, I can provide an insurance claim letter, via email.
Do you provide online consultations?
Absolutely! Online consultations are just as effective as in-person appointments, though they may sometimes take a little longer.
Do you offer reviews?
Yes, I strongly recommend a biannual & annual review. Many clients find that these reviews help them to stay on track. Also, they’ll benefit from my knowledge of the latest research. The cost for a review is @£90.
I see clients at my private practice in Old Town, Swindon, which is easily accessible from Marlborough, Newbury, Chippenham, Gloucester, Oxford, and the surrounding areas. Do you have questions about how nutrition can support your health & well-being? As a Functional Medicine, PSA accredited, registered nutritionist & nutritional therapy practitioner, I understand that commencing a health journey, often comes with questions & a desire for clarity. That's why I offer a complimentary 30-minute (maximum) discovery phone call. This is an opportunity for you to explore how a personalised approach to nutrition can make a positive, & often a dramatic difference in your life.
During this introductory conversation, we'll briefly, discuss your health concerns. It’s designed to give you an idea of how the nutritional therapy process can help you understand your personalised, nutritional requirements, helping you to reach & sustain your health goals. The discovery call provides clarity on what it's like to collaborate with a nutritional therapist & my unique & personal approach. By understanding how I work, you'll be better equipped to decide, if scheduling a nutritional therapy package is the right decision for you, & determine whether the Adult package (most commonly required), or the extended period of support that the Adult Complex provides, would be the best option. If you'd like to learn more about the nutritional therapy process & whether you'd like to work together, you can book a free discovery call with me.
Whether you'd like to arrange a free, no-obligation discovery call or book your first consultation, as part of a nutrition package, I’d love to hear from you.
